About Justin Stanaker

Want an outing that is more than just a day on the water?

Justin Stanaker is a retired long-liner commercial fisherman, spending decades chasing swordfish across some of the most unforgiving oceans on the planet. His career took him from fishing the Kankakee River to the violent open waters of the Atlantic and Pacific—where the sea doesn’t ask permission and every day writes a new chapter.

But what truly sets Justin apart isn’t just his skill with a rod.
It’s his stories.

Justin’s adventures include being lost at sea, surviving rogue waves, hurricanes with 50-foot swells while moving 7 knots backwards for days in a single storm. He once leapt onto an 1,200-pound Sunfish, and he holds the jaw-dropping title of catching one of the largest shortfin Mako sharks ever recorded. These aren’t tales from a book—these are lived moments carved into memory by salt, danger, and grit.

Today, Justin brings those real-life adventures to teams, executives, and corporate groups who want an outing that is more than just a day on the water. His events combine hands-on fishing instruction, team-building challenges, ocean-survival insights, and—his signature offering—story sessions from a man who has truly seen the sea at its wildest.

Whether it's helping a team land their first real fish, showing beginners the fundamentals, or captivating a deck full of professionals with stories you’ll be talking about for years, Justin delivers a corporate outing that is equal parts skill, thrill, and unforgettable entertainment.

Deep Sea Legends isn't just a fishing trip.
It’s a journey into the heart of the ocean with someone who’s lived to tell about it.
